Printed Matter
Printed Matter allocated its awarded Travel Grant Funds to assist with travel expenses in relation to; launching a partnership at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis around artist books, visiting MOCA and other organizations in Los Angeles to investigate possibilities for, and to implement, the LA Art Book fair; to do outreach in Chicago; and towards supporting a curatorial trip by the organization’s Assistant Director Max Schumann to Trip Shenkar College, International Academy of Arts, Mahatta Gallery in Palestine.
Printed Matter’s trip to Minneapolis was used for its collaboration with the Walker Art Center where the organization launched its first ever Curated Book Shelf – titled… Of Printed Matter. The launch corresponded with a mini artist book fair entitled Overbooked mostly made up of emerging local artists who had the chance to show their publications at the Walker.
The organization’s trip to Los Angeles resulted in the first ever LA ART Book Fair, a hugely successful event which was held at The Geffen Contemporary Building at MOCA. Printed Matter collaborated with staff members from MOCA, LACMA and the Hammer Museum to put together some of the programming that took place at the fair. Over 16,000 people attended the 3 day event, and the organization invited 220 exhibitors to take part in the fair.
