Momenta Art requested travel funding for two exploratory visits to new organizations in Berlin and Bolivia. Both trips aimed to produce connections with like-minded organizations and artists that Momenta Art feels will strengthen its programming and expand possibilities of presenting works that combine aesthetic experiences and social engagement. The first request supported the directors of Momenta in traveling to Berlin between June 7th and June 14th, 2012 in order to participate in and observe the actions and progress made by Occupy Museums at the Berlin Biennial and gather information and contacts in order to conceptualize how to continue OM’s project at Momenta’s space in the fall of 2012.

The second project is in relation to a curatorial proposal offered by artist, Claudia Joskowitz, regarding a group exhibition of Bolivian artists for the 2012-2014 season. The exhibition, Miamicito, refers to flea markets in Bolivia that function as links in a chain of informal trade, retail, and tax evasion in an open market.  With Momenta’s Travel Grant, Eric Heist was able to visit Bolivia March 5th through 13th, 2013 to see the work installed and to investigate other potential artists for this group exhibition.
