SPACE Gallery in Portland, ME utilized its Warhol Initiative Grant in a variety of ways. The organization implemented Facility improvements, Equipment Purchases, Administrative Support, and Website / communication improvements. In addition, it was able to boost its Cash Reserve and to facilitate the hiring of an experienced Development Director. SPACE Gallery also invested in Technical Assistance which included Strategic Planning / Board Development, Cash Reserve training with Nancy Allen of Larson Allen, as well as Collaborative Leadership training. Having the organization’s Executive Director participate in Collaborative Leadership Training was not only a great experience for networking but also for learning tools to work effectively as a board leader and manager and helped to position SPACE as an organization that is an active participant in the community. Overall, with the help of the Warhol Initiative Grant SPACE feels that it has been able to advance as an organization that treats its staff better and takes better care of its artists. Despite recent years of economic hardship, SPACE Gallery’s organizational budget has steadily grown, with corresponding growth in grant and annual fund income.
